To conclude they were reminded of Pujya Gurudev’s quote: . GROUP: TAPASTHEME: ADOLESCENT ISSUES. The following were identified and discussed. Parents are not role models for their children. Changing Lifestyle and invasion of titillating media into homes. Suggestions/Solutions: Setting / explaining the limits and boundaries that a child cannot cross. Don’t drink / smoke in front of children. GROUP : ABILASHTHEME: GYANAM SEVACHA KAUSHALAM1. Meaning of the terms Knowledge, service and efficiency. Parents expressed their view on knowledge. They said that there is a gap between what children learn and what they experience the world. Guruji's personal experience (which he once shared) was given as as example of seva. They can be the role models. GROUP : SAMARPAN THEME : REINFORCEMENT OF SCHOOL INPUTS AT HOMEChildren must be engaged in activities that help in inculcating values and occupy their time as well. Parents must spend quality time with the children. Parents must minimize the usage of gadgets and watching television and set an example. Everyone in the family must use a common computer and phone to stop children misusing them. Providing knowledge on good vs bad that the child automatically refrains from misusing internet. Having no password policy at home on all mobiles phones so that everything is open and ways of diversion can be checked. Parents must follow CIRS core values/principles. Suggestion: Periodic online submission of holiday assignment by the children will keep them positively engaged. GROUP: SADBHAAVTHEME: MAKING VALUES VALUABLE Are values valued today? Parents are not necessarily a good example - some contradictions in what we say and what we do; Are we showing the right behaviours as an example? Specific discussion between parents/children on the values which are demonstrated in the world today is important ( politics, movies etc); Are we giving enough time with the children? Is this time used well for discussion? Are we promoting the right options of education, entertainment, fun for children? Have we educated our children to make the right choices? How do we remove the sense of entitlement from the children? Where is the balance? Are we in a rush to give all the things that we can afford to our children? What we as parents give,we get? Are we as parents being the right models/examples for our children? The following points were shared by the parents during the discussion: To show value of Money, give the c hildren the ability to spend money but under guidance. We cannot POLICE everything that our children are expected to, but if we give the right principles to evaluate these options, the child will learn to make the right choices. Values are highly relevant to this generation especially due to the vast exposure due to media and the internet. At 3: 0. 0 PM in the afternoon, after a tiresome bus journey, the team arrived at Youreka Camp site, Yercaud. Upon arrival, the team of instructors welcomed them and served a delectable lunch. Time for refreshing was provided soon after which the students were divided into four teams. Each team was given a fun name and presented their objectives of the camp as a poster. The different teams were assigned different activities according to a schedule. One of the activities for the day was the rope courses. Two students in the group were to climb a ladder made of ropes. They have to help each other at every step to reach the top. It was then named as the friendship ladder. There were other rope games like bucket walking, balancing ropes etc. Activities commenced after breakfast and came to a pause just in time for lunch. The students were exhausted and rested for an hour after which the activities commenced again. The students were taken for rappelling wherein they moved down a steep rock. They were tied by means of a double rope secured above and placed around the body and paid out gradually in the descent. It was truly adventurous!! At 6: 0. 0PM, the instructors gathered all the students according to their group for a “REFLECTION” time.
